OutDoor Activities for the Whole Family
Spring is finally here! Spring is a great time to get out and enjoy the warmer weather, to shake off the doldrums of winter. And your local Delaware State Park is the perfect place to get outside. Don’t forget to get the whole family involved. The Parks have two activities designed with families in mind. Both activities are free to anyone who has a 2013 Delaware State Park annual pass.
The Delaware Great Parks Pursuit Game
The Delaware State Parks Great Parks Pursuit Game is a new state parks initiative for families with children under sixteen. This family-fun, action packed program takes you and your family through twenty five exciting activities located through out the state. The more activities your family completes, the more prizes you can win. This family fun and interactive game is a great way to get your family moving and enjoying the great outdoors.
How to Play The Great Parks Pursuit
It’s really quite easy. Just download the Great Parks Pursuit game-sheet, or pick one up at your local state park office or nature center. Then complete as many of the activities as you can between now and December 31st. Don’t forget to have completed activities validated before leaving the State Park. You’ll need a park official to validate the completed activities on the game sheet to be eligible for the prizes.

Check out some of the family-friendly and fun activities the Great Parks Pursuit game might just have your family doing this summer. Note that some activities, including boat rentals and camping, have fees beyond the State Park Annual Pass fee.

Once you’ve completed all the activities, or it’s almost December 31st, mail your game sheet to Delaware State Parks to claim your family’s hard earned prize:
Bronze Award – Complete 9-13 activities and receive free tickets to Delaware State Parks family fun activities.

The Get Fit Trail Challenge
Another family-friendly Delaware State Parks program is the Get Fit Trail Challenge. The Get Fit Trail Challenge is easy, and budget friendly. Get the whole family together and spend an afternoon hiking and exploring the many trails found in the Delaware State Parks. Hikers who complete a certain number of trails will receive certificates of completion and a Trail Challenge patch.
To get started on your own family hiking adventure, download the Trail Challenge Registration Form or ask for one at your nearest parks office or nature center. Then find your local State Parks trails, grab the kids, and get hiking! Trails are located through the state, and you’ll find many family friendly trails along the way.
