The following is an except from the November 2010 edition of our newsletter: The Voice
My name is Suzanne Burnett, and I am the primary caregiver for my daughter Nicole. She is 25 years old and is surviving every day with severe mental retardation, cerebral palsy (spastic quadriplegic), blindness, seizures, and osteoporosis. She has endured spinal fusion and many other procedures. She depends on a ventilator for breathing. Despite all these challenges, Nicole is a happy and very much loved young lady.
I recently had the opportunity to share the story of our family at several events. Ann Phillips of Delaware Family to Family Health Information Center helped me with some issues regarding Nicole. When I had opportunity to present our story, I turned to Family to Family again for help. Michelle Lamers helped me learn how to outline my presentations and gave me the confidence to stand in front of a group and share such personal information. I am willing to help other families who might want to consider sharing their own stories. I would love to try and make it easier for any of you who need help with this. Call Michelle and she can advise you in the process of telling your own story, and I can lend my support if you need it.
